HISTORY:
This German Sturmtiger was a real killing-machine, and a feared beast! The
Sturmtiger was based on a late model Tiger 1 chassis, the front of the Tiger's
superstructure was removed to make room for the new fighting compartment housing
the rocket launcher/mortar. The Sturmtiger was a very powerful tank, and it
is easy to see why-The Huge Barrel! The Sturmtiger Barrel is a breech loading
rocket launcher that could either fire a projectile that contained an explosive
charge, or a projectile that contained a shaped charge. These projectiles could
easily penetrate through 2.5 meters of reinforced concrete! The Sturmtiger was
used to take down heavily defended buildings or fortified areas, with a single
shot. This meant it would have to drive into areas more populated, and be subjected
to attacks by enemy gunfire. This is why the Sturmtiger has a very "boxy" shape
to it. The amour on the German Sturmtiger tank was meant to take a real hit
as its it's frontal armour was 150 mm thick, as well as sloped, while its side
plates were still some 80 mm thick. This pushed the weight of the vehicle up
from the original 57 tons of the regular Tiger 1 to some 68 tons. Simply put,
the German Sturmtioger was an incredible, unique Tank, and will be long remebered
in history.
